Scholarship
This scholarship was created in honor of the life of Aaliyah Sheridan; a daughter, sister, and student who fought with Sickle Cell disease. During her fight, she was caring to others and thrived for academic success. This scholarship is designed to raise a standard for academic excellence within our community. This scholarship is for high school seniors who have overcome adversity while pursuing academic excellence and exemplifying unity within their community.

What is the amount of the award?
The Scholarship award is $1,000. Checks are mailed or presented to the recipient on or before July 15.
When must I submit by?
The application deadline is May 31st, 2025.
Who was Aaliyah Sheridan?
Aaliyah Sheridan was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. A loving daughter, devoted sister, and dedicated student, she faced the challenges of Sickle Cell disease with unwavering strength and grace. Despite her battle, Aaliyah remained compassionate, always putting others before herself. She was passionate about education and strived for academic success, demonstrating resilience and determination in every aspect of her life. Her legacy of perseverance, kindness, and excellence continues to inspire those around her. The Aaliyah Sheridan "More Than A Conqueror" Scholarship honors her memory by supporting students who, like her, have overcome adversity while pursuing their dreams.
How are scholarship recipients selected?
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Academic Excellence Committee. The committee will only evaluate applications submitted before the deadline and information submitted by the candidates in their scholarship applications. The committee will compare candidates in the following areas with the weighted scoring:
Academic Performance
Students are graded on their grade point average, school club participation, and extra-curricular activities. A student’s academic performance score is adjusted based on the difficulty of courses, course load, the depth/breadth of subjects studied, and honors/advanced placement courses.

Community Involvement
Students are evaluated on community service. Submissions should include community service participation between 9th and 12th grade. More points are awarded for a broad range of community service that helped others in need and for holding leadership roles in these endeavors.

Place of Worship
Students are evaluated on their faithfulness in places of worship. Faithfulness can include but is not limited to attendance, leading worship/praise services, serving as musicians or vocalist, devoting time as a youth leader, and planning activities or programs for young people of faith. More points will be awarded to students who submit letters from their pastors or church staff members confirming such participation.
Essay
Students will submit a brief essay on a selected topic. Essays are judged on writing skills, appropriateness of writing to the topic, grammar, and thoroughness of writing and research.

Maximum Points
Scholarship winners are selected based on their potential for success in rigorous college studies and their ability to impact the community and place of worship during and after graduation. Students are selected without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or family financial circumstances.
IYYAD Academic Excellence Program




We believe that education is a vital aspect of personal and spiritual growth, and we are committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment for students to excel academically.
Our program is designed to support high school student’s academic pursuits while fostering their spiritual development. We also have educational programming developed for our youth, grades K-8, to prepare them for their future.
In addition, our program offers academic support services, including study skills workshops and college preparation resources.
Each year graduates are invited to participate in the IYYAD Graduation Ceremony at the International Youth & Young Adult Conference in June/July.
